Come to DSC on Saturday, March 25th, and hear PhD Candidate, Robyn Kennaugh speak more on helping people more readily identify and access available resources that can help them combat stress and age well.
IT'S NOT HOW OLD YOU ARE, IT'S HOW YOU ARE OLD
with Robyn Kennaugh, PhD Candidate (Gender & Health)
Robyn Kennaugh has been a physiotherapist for nearly 40 years, with wide experience in sports medicine, and a focus over the past 10 years within the military veteran’s community. Her passion has always been to empower people to cope with the stressors they may have faced in life by encouraging them to recognise, utilise and if necessary develop resource to achieve the best outcomes possible. No matter what people think about the idea of ageing it is ALREADY happening to them! Even for those for whom ageing issues are not yet a personal pressure, navigating the needs of older people in their family and social networks becomes easier with some support and direction. Remember, no matter if people are on the back 9 of life, it is good to finish strong. Her PhD research has helped identify the most common stressors in the lives of older Australian women and the orientation they bring to life to obtain the best possible outcomes. As a result of the research Robyn is using her findings to help people more readily identify and access available resources that can help them combat stress, and age well. The benefits that are possible include the possibility for people to live independently and actively for as long as they wish to. This includes encouraging people to maintain as much social engagement as is possible, and to help them identify sufficient reason and purpose to continue to meet the demands of life and to invest in a meaningful future.
